We are in the middle of moving across the state and as I was packing up my office I found a journal. In it I found a list of why I wanted to start an online business and what I wanted that business to provide. The list was written 5 years ago. It’s funny to look back at this list now and see what I have accomplished and what I still need to work on. I’m not your typical Entrepreneur so my list may seem a little trivial, but for a stay at home with twin 3 year olds I didn’t have much time to draft a formal business plan. 1. I want to be with my kids. My kids were only 3 years old when I started working on the idea of starting an online business. I knew that they would grow up fast; I needed to be home with them as long as I could….

Marketing and advertising are not synonyms. Marketing is a long term process. It takes a lot of time and effort. It essentially is an investment, which is absolutely integral to your business. Given the importance of marketing, the very first step is having an excellent plan in hand.

The marketing plan has to be formulated keeping the goal of the home business, in mind. The goal should be definite, measurable, vivid and real. Marketing is essentially what will take your business to the goal we are discussing about. You have to formulate a plan choosing amongst the given media such that your budget accommodates the same and there is a good return on investment. Not forgetting to mention, the value of time, most precious asset indeed.

When you work as an independent consultant or entrepreneur in home business, you are entirely responsible for marketing your business. You cannot summon a marketing team and hold them responsible for the same. But the goal in either way is the same – increased awareness product or service offered by your home business. Keeping this mind, a certain amount of salesmanship is definitely required especially in this maddening world of competition in every walk of life, irrespective of the nature of your business.

——————————————–
Check This Out –> Free Blog Marketing Guide
——————————————–

Unfortunately, a lot of home business owners take a lot of efforts to market their products/services but fail miserably on one most important part of the marketing process – that is, follow up and follow through. You have to continually follow up with your current base and potential customers. Remember – out of sight, out of mind! Marketing is not a one-time process. It is an on-going process. The success of the process lies in the effectiveness of your follow up. Leave out those whom you think will not give in to the follow up. In other words, don’t waste your time with those that are not going to definitely buy your product/service. Your success ratio will be higher if you target the right people and follow up with them. This does not mean you disturb them at their every waking hour!

You have to decide the time intervals that you would like to follow up with your customers and products. You don’t want your prospect to forget you but at the same time, you shouldn’t stifle his/her time. Have a tracking system in place.

It takes a lot of time and effort to get customers. Hence, efforts have to be taken not to lose them. Cross selling or back-end selling is also crucial for this reason.

Read up books on home business marketing. The internet is also full of low cost methods to successful marketing. Distribute newsletters with product details and code, brochures etc. Display the same on bulletin boards. Be a part of trade shows. Do whatever you can, to increase your visibility.

Home business marketing just needs clear cut thought and plan in hand. Successful implementation of the same will ensure success.
