Automating your business online can help simplify a marketing plan. Many people that know me know how I speak a lot about simplifying this and simplifying that. I’m a strong believer in simplifying everything I do, including: Job Housework Family Online Time This thought process started back when I was in college. A good friend of mine sent me a letter with a tip that has stuck with me forever. My good friend “Lee” was giving advice about attending college and he made a comment for me to work hard and *simplify *my study habits. That thought process has stuck with me to this day and I am thankful that I had a friend that cared enough to give me some good solid advice which helped set the path for a successful future! After today …

I’ve had a few people ask me, ‘Danna, what do you sell on eBay?’ I give a smile while I answer the question, ‘I mostly sell myself on eBay!’ People will look at me kind of dumbfounded when I answer their question but the truth is, I am selling my consulting services on eBay! Many businesses overlook the possibilities of selling themselves on eBay. There are many different avenues of selling yourself on eBay depending on your services. A good way to get started is to think of how you could write an advertisement or a commercial for your business. Then condense that commercial into an eBay listing. EBay is not only the world’s largest online marketplace; it is also the world’s largest online marketing place! EBay is a brilliant tool f…

How to Market Yourself on eBay

Feedback sometimes reflects the way people think and shop. One unkind word or negative statement can spread like wildfire across the land. As a seller on eBay I know firsthand how important it is to receive good feedback from buyers. The feedback system is very well known to eBay members. However the feedback system was not introduced to the world by eBay. Feedback has been taking place since the beginning of time! Locally we will have word of mouth feedback, where a client may recommend another client to do business with. A neighbor may recommend a hairdresser or a bank or mortgage company. These are called ‘Unwritten feedback’ or a word of mouth type of feedback a person had from firsthand experience. On the Internet and in the …

The 44th Governor Charlie Crist from our beautiful state of Florida has announced he no longer wants to be a Republican! Many times when politicians make a change or have a scandal, their memorabilia on eBay will go up in price. Some may call this move of his a scandal; others may call it a state of confusion. The great sunshine state of Florida has been tagged a confused state anyhow after the lack of the ability to be able to count votes back in 2000. I remember this well because we had just moved to Florida from Illinois and I admit to feeling a bit embarrassed to be living here at the time. Even residents that grew up in Florida were embarrassed during that time. I was raised in a strong family of Republicans from Illinois and t…

‘eBay Pioneered Social Networking!’ Those were the words on a screen in Atlanta at the 1st eBay On Location event which was held March 19th and 20th 2010 at the OMNI CNN Center. The display had a photograph from the Wild West days. I felt that eBay can be compared to the first settlers of social networking during the internet’s Wild West days!

The eBay platform launched in 1995 when social networking was not even a ‘buzz’ word like it is today. EBay had the beginnings while launching the world’s largest online marketplace. It was developing a huge social network with members buying items from each other, messaging member to member and leaving public feedback just like a linkedIn.com referral network that we all know so well now. Dis…

With the economy the way it is right now, every penny counts. Many people from around the globe have been forced to ‘tighten up the belt’ by cutting corners and eliminating some of those ‘luxury’ items from the budget. Times like this is an especially good time to take a ‘new’ look around the house and develop a plan, a mission an actual self competition to turn some of those unwanted items into cash!

Getting started is simple, once you have a plan of action which includes goal setting. What you will need to get started is three empty boxes. Grab a marker and mark each box: eBay Garage Sale Research A few other items you will need: Post-It Notes Price tag dots or masking tape Once you have the boxes marked, place the eBay and…

eBay made a few major announcements this week about new policy changes. The one I wanted to write about first this time: List Auction-style FREE pay only if it sells Starting March 30th, 2010 eBay will kick off the start to the lowest fees ever. If you’ve ever thought about selling on eBay this will be the perfect time to give it a try because you will have nothing to lose except a bit of quality time and a few items that needed a new home!

EBay announced: No listing fees for items starting at 99 cents using the classic, auction format. There is a limit though and that limit is 100 items every 30 days! Yes, you read that correctly, 100 free auction listings with an opening bid of 99 cents! If your item does not sell, you pay not…

Making a list and checking it twice is the best way to start a new year, a new job or an old life with new plans! List building can help everyone with getting organized no matter what business you are in. I even encourage my kids to build lists with future plans, goal setting and saving money. There are many questions you should ask yourself when building a list. Depending on the direction you are heading, a few list suggestions are: How much money do you need? What career level do you want to be at? What goal do you want to reach? What weight do you want to be? Quit date to stop smoking? And: What do you want to be when you grow up? Once you have the basic idea of which goal you want to accomplish, the list building part can begin…

Ecommerce and eBay Yearly Check-List

With Black Friday behind us, we can push up our sleeves and get serious about buying and selling on eBay. Now is the time to search for the sales and make some extra cash for the Holidays and have some spending money after the Holidays too! As the momentum is picking up with sales at eBay it will now continue on through February. Many times over my 13 years of selling on eBay, I’ve made more money in January than any other month. But again it would depend on thy type of stock I have for selling. I’ve been mostly what I call ‘treasure hunt seller’ selling used items and collectibles found at garage sales, flea markets and through wholesale discounts. My theory has been that January is a busy time because: ‘ People are snowed in ‘ …

Many website owners have spent countless hours researching SEO and marketing their sites. eBay store owners are the same with keyword placements. Most all eBay sellers put great thought into the title of an item using it as a lure to bring people into each listing. We all work hard and play little trying to compete, upgrade and optimize ourselves in the virtual world of selling online. Today I wanted to encourage the readers of Practical eCommerce to seek out some local opportunities. I feel this is an area that is overlooked and many times not even considered. We tend to get so busy with our online presence that we don’t even consider looking in our own back yard. There are many tools available right down the street in your commun…
